Design Engineer - Contract

Concept Feasibility Studies role - Catia V5

THE ROLE:
This is a CAD based role using Catia V5 and will require the individual to work as part of a small team, with some possible interface to a mule build activity in a prototype build workshop environment. This work is to deliver a concept and feasibility study around a new product that is low volume and production feasible for a world market. The CAD based work will include concept schemes and solutions for whole vehicle package and architecture, under the lead of a Senior Engineer. During this initial phase the work will be mostly 3D modeling.

THE CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidates will posses the following:
• At least 5 years experience in a 3D modeling role
• Solid track record in the Automotive industry
• Very good understanding of whole vehicle packaging requirements including functionality of systems and components.
• Good working understanding of whole vehicle integration
• A logical thinker
• Hard working

Transmission Control & Calibration Engineer
 
Location: Buckinghamshire
 
THE ROLE
Responsible for the calibration of drive-train control systems for passenger cars regarding shift quality, shift characteristics and launch control for transmissions, as well as functional development for TCU software with a deep understanding of TCU software structures and algorithms, calibration and trials in vehicles, calibration with simulation tools and HIL and the supervision of the start of production with OEMs.


THE CANDIDATE

ESSENTIAL:
• Automotive OEM/Tier1 or Consultancy background
• Transmission, clutch, or driveline control/electronics experience, min 3years
• Embedded code experience, preferably C/C++
• Working knowledge of CAN
• Degree level qualification
• Current clean driving license

DESIRABLE
• DSpace
• Control algorithm development
• Matlab Simulink controls system modelling
• Matlab RTW or ASCET-SD code development platforms
• Engine management experience
• Used to the best practice/quality procedures in the software development process (V shape, quality process)
• Good understanding of mechanical systems

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEERS - POWERTRAIN & CHASSIS
 
Location: Leicester
 
My Company has three powertrain design teams and seven chassis design teams working on a number of complete new models and updates to existing models. The chassis is defined as comprising all the elements on a motorcycle with the exception of the engine, cooling and exhaust system and covers a wide variety of components and systems. A typical design team comprises six to eight people working in a close knit environment focused on delivering world class products to an aggressive timescale.

The role will involve technical ownership of a wide variety of components and systems, from scheming through detail design, (using Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3D CAD and Pro/Intralink data management systems), development and final validation testing and approval. Successful applicants are likely to be qualified to degree level 2.1 or above in mechanical or automotive engineering although candidates with HNC qualification or above with proven relevant experience are also welcome to apply.

BUMPER SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Scope

To provide expert theoretical and practical capability to be aware of and to understand in detail the latest developments in the relevant vehicle systems and to select and to engineer appropriate systems and components in the company's products

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for developing and maintaining specialist and technical business knowledge and capability.
Responsible for developing an understanding of the business aspects to be considered in selecting and implementing technical solutions.
Responsible for defining and planning own work for approval by Senior Engineers and the Functional Manager.
Develop potential feature definition from broad marketing requirements by providing benchmarks from current and forthcoming competitor vehicles and supplier developments and analysing benefits and risks of available technologies in relation to specific functionality, legal, cost, weight, timing and business requirements.
Responsible for design of vehicle features,components and systems within your specialist discipline, which, when introduced into production are safe and legally fit for purpose.
Identify and analyse alternative design solutions to satisfy functional, technical, legal and styling specifications, in line with engineering strategies, initially from existing VW Group/supplier capability, but if necessary through initiating original design development
Accountable for planning, monitoring and expediting all test, validation and certification of your systems and components.
In conjunction with the Senior Engineer, Functional Manager, Validation Manager and Certification Manager, agree component and system validation and certification requirements to satisfy BML/VW Group standards and international safety legislation.
Accountable for timely parts release for prototype build and production, and for timely delivery of all Product Engineering activities required to achieve timely vehicle launch to quality and cost.
Monitor and, if necessary, expedite, supplier or external design house activities concerned in the design, testing, release and delivery of the prototype parts. (Which may be necessary to support initial production).

Qualifications

Degree in relevant engineering discipline
Demonstrable experience within the automotive industry
